Self Portrait

This is the personal Blog of me, Dale Cody. I am an Interactive Creative Director by day and a….well it seems the same thing at night I guess due to the often crazy hours we work. I love it though and wouldn’t trade it for anything. I have worked on both client and agency sides. The constant variety and challenge of this career are one of the things I love most about it.  Things are constantly changing and evolving so I need to learn and grow right along with them in order to stay ahead of the curve. It’s always interesting.

My background and first love is design, but I also have an MBA in Information Technology so am very invested in those places where business and design meet. I love finding or creating that gestalt where the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. Creating great User Experiences is probably the most important thing in my work, whether it’s designing a complete social media website, an advertising micro-site, rich media solution or whatever. If I can create something that really engages users and provides real value to all stakeholders, then I’m in my happy place.

Although this blog will mostly be about professional matters of interest to me, I also want to include some personal and recreation material when I can. I have a broad range of interests and activities that I pursue including rock climbing, travel, snow and water skiing, golf, scuba, kayaking, waxing philosophic about nonsense and reading. The latter is of course great fuel for the philosophizing part as well as for the imagination. I have been fortunate to have had some really great adventures in life as well as some close scrapes with mortality and occasionally some notoriety (usually someone else’s).

One other thing that I’m pretty passionate about is passing on the torch to the next generation of design professionals. I love to teach and if you’ve ever had any teeny little inclination to do so, I would heartily recommend it. The word “rewarding” is so overused that it makes my eyeballs roll back in my head, but in this case it really applies. I have had a lot of fantastic, generous people help me over the years and I hope in my own small way to repay that debt by sharing some of what I’ve learned. That said, I hope you will find some enjoyment and illumination in reading this blog.
